Abstract

The exact etiopathology through which varicocele affect negatively the seminogram and the fertility potential is exactly unknown up till now. The results of the studies in this regard are mostly controversial.
Varicocle is known to cause venous stagnation, tissue hypoxia and increased ROS release. This in consequence may affect the testicular tissue structure and function.
Electron microscopic Studies of the blood-testis barrier (mainly Sertoli-Sertoli cell junctional complex) in varicocele patients proved its disruption. The latter in consequence may predispose to the formation of ASA in varicocele patients, these ASA if proved to be formed may play a role in the etiopathology through which varicocele affects the seminograrn and the fertility potential.
Reviewing the literature in this regard, very scant studies were found with controversial results. So we aimed by this work to investigate the formation and the presence of ASA in varicocele patients and to correlate this- if any to the changes in serninogram in such patients.
To approach our goal 30 clinically evident (Grade 11 & ill) varicocele and 15 age matched, non varicocele (as proved by clinical examination as well as by scrotal Duplex ultrasonography) as a control group were included in this study.
