Abstract

The present study revealed the following:-
-As regard the symptoms (73.3%) of the studied GERD patients showed extra esophageal pharyngo-laryngeal symptoms dysphonia was the commonest complaint (72.7%), followed by globus sensation (45.4%).
- The pharyngo laryngeal findings, were found in 90% of the studied GERD patients this denote that not all cases with positive findings had pharyngo-laryngeal complaints.
- The endoscopic grading ofGERD patients was found to have no relation with their pharyngo laryngeal score.
- GERD patients with abnormal pharyngo laryngeal score was found to have diminished LESP and the score is directly proportionated to degree of diminution in the LESP.
- As regards the 24hour PH monitoring, our study revealed that GERD patients with abnormal pharyngo laryngeal score had abnormal acid score i.e. high acid score is associated with more severe pharyngcolaryngeal findings.
Biopsy from suspicious areas of diseased mucosa revealed chronic non specific inflammatory changes in twenty six cases. One case show laryngeal squaemous cell carcinoma in situ ( 1.6%), On the other hand three cases ( 5%) show no evidence of inflammatory reaction.
