Abstract Nasal packing is one of the most common procedures used in management of epistaxis or after nasal surgery. Many authors propose that, nasal packing causes various disturbance in pulmonary ventilation. The disturbance will reflect itself lastly on arterial blood gases. In this study, 30 patients were grouped into 2 groups. Group (A): Includes 20 patients complaining of nasal obstruction due to either deviated nasal septum or due to nasal polypi. Group (B): Include 10 patients complaining of epistaxis. Arterial oxygen saturation was estimated before and 24 hours after nasal packing using continuous digital pulse oximetry. Oxygen saturation showed no satistically significant changes. An important question arises, does mouth breathing achieves proper lung ventilation as good as that of nasal respiration? Answering this question will be very easy if we know that the nose has many important functions which include olfaction, |
