Abstract Otologists have long searched for a simple means of closing permanent tympanic membrane perforations. Permanent perforations may be of traumatic origin but more often a pathological one. So this work was carried out to compare between 2 simple methods of promotion of healing by either trimming or cautery and their effects on healing and hearing. The study included 30 patient with permanent tympanic membrane perforation with special selection criteria. They were divided into 2 groups for 15 cases trimming was done and for 15 cases cautery was done. All of the cases were subjected to complete sheet and full examination including general examination and complete E.N.T. examination especially ear examination followed by laboratory and audiometric investigations including audiometry and tympanometry pre and post-trimming and cautery. |
