Abstract Sensorineural hearing loss occurring subsequent to suppurative otitis media , both acute and chronic , appears to be a fairly prevalent worldwide phenomenon It would appear that the incidence of sensorineural involvement is clinically significant and that one should consider TTS5 as well as high frequency PTS5 subsequent to these diseases Patients with POM are more susceptible to regional basal turn TTS than patients with COM The round window membrane was a site of pathological involvement especially in POM characterized by inflammatory changes, diapedesis of leukocytes , passage of large molecules of 2lbumin and localized inflammatory changes C serous labyrinthitis) n the adjacent basal turn The human round window membrane was found to be twice its )ormal thickness due to an accumulation of collagen in the ubepithelial space. |
