Abstract

The present study has examined several approaches to the prognostic evaluation of bilharziai bladder cancer including evaluation of different clinicopathological variables and mutant p53 in the serum and urine- The study was carried out on 51 cases of bladder cancer from the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. In the current study, bladder tumors were predominant in males 80.4%. The age ranged between 18 and 80 years with the overall mean age of 53.6 years.
Clinical evaluation of the patients revealed that hematuria was the most common symptom at first presentation 43.1%.
Pourty-two 82.4% patients had schistosomal infection while 24 cases 47.2% had SCC pathologic subtype, 22 cases 43. i% had TCC, 2 cases 3.9% had mixed carcinoma (SCC +TCC), 2 cases 3.9% were adenocarcinoma and one case 1.9% was undifferentlated carcinoma.
Eight cases 15,7% had grade I disease, 27 cases 52.9% had grade IF disease and 16 cases 31.4% had grade III disease.
