Abstract This study was done on 15 patients of Hirsch-sprung’s disease collected randomly from the private practice of the senior supervisor and the surgical unit of the Paediatric Hospital.The various presentatiootat different age groups were noted. Barium enema and full thickness rectal biopsy were used as investigationa to confirm the clinical diagnosis. The early postoperative results were studied. It was deduced that the commonest presenting age group is from 1 to 6 years. The im-portance of the full thiclmess rectal biopsy in reach-ing the diagnosis is stressed upon especially for the atypical cases. It was 100 % reliable in this series. Barium enema found to be reliable in typical cases only. Swenson’s technique have been found to be the ideal for our patients. It was followed in all resected cases with no primary postoperative mortality. The early post operative results as regards act of defaecation and soiling were very satisfact-ory |
