Abstract

This study was carried on 30 females, 10 as control group subjected to history, clinical examination including P.R examination and all studied women subjected to investigation in the form of E.M.G of the levator ani muscle and external anal sphincter, PNTML on the right. and left side and manometric study. The other 20 cases divided into 7 cases delivered by C.S (group D) and 13 cases with vaginal delivery (group B) three of them delivered by forceps delivery (group C). All cases subjected to history taking, clinical examination including P.R and investigation in the form of E.M.G to levator ani muscle and external anal sphincter, PNTML on the right and left side and manonetrip study at rest and at squeezing on the immediate postnatal period and 2 months later.
This study revealed that the childbirth affect pelvic floor and external anal sphincter either by direct damage to the muscle or to its innervation this occur with vaginal delivery and was more evident in multiparae than primiparae more with forceps than normal vaginal delivery, while during C.S no effects on the pelvic floor muscles and external anal sphincter.
This was evident in the immediate postnatal period while two months later their was a significant improvement in all results more in prirniparae than multiparae. Some degree of damage of the external anal sphincter and levator ani muscle or its innervation persists after vaginal delivery.
