Abstract The choice of operative procedure in the surgical management for the patients with chronic duodenal ulcer has been a long established dilemma. During the past thirty years truncal vagotomy with drainage procedure was the most common operation used (Johnston 1987). This study comprises mainly the evaluation of gastric acidity as one of the physiological effect of truncal vagotomy which is a common surgical modality used in treatment of chronic duodenal ulcer. Our study included ten patients (6 males and 4 females) with documented duodenal ulcer admitted for elective surgery to different hospitals in Domiate within nine month between 1993 to 1994. All patients were operated upon by truncal votorny anti gastrojejunostomy as a drainage procedure. These patients were subjected beside clinical assessment to a lot of investigation mainly gastric secretory studies (BAO and MAO) and insulin test in addition to upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and barium meal study. After operation the patients were subjected to re-estimation of gastric acidity and functional assessment of postoperative symptoms for overall grading of results was done by using modified visick classification Operative mortality was nil and postoperative symptoms and complications were relatively mild and controlled well. not severe and controlled easily by |
