Abstract Diagnostic laparoscopy is considered as the investigation of choice to explore tubo-peritoneal infertility or infertility associated with endometriosis. Standard diagnostic laparoscopy for female infertility is frequently performed in healthy women without obvious pelvic pathology, resulting in normal findings or pathology of doubtful clinical significance or of unknown evolution (Forman et aL, 1993). In this context, laparoscopy is not innocuous and should be considered as a major surgical procedure due to the risk of complications (Querleu et aL, 1993; (‘hapron et at., 1997; Jánsen et a!., 1997). Attempts are being made to perform safer and less traumatic diagnostic laparoscopy, using small diameter laparoscopes, under local anesthesia and sedation (Patter and Olive, 1996; Risquez et a!., 1997). Transvaginal hydrolaparoscopy (THL) is a new endoscopic technique to easily and rapidly explore the pelvis. This procedure is based on vaginal access using a needle puncture technique and saline for distension (Gordts et aL, 1998a). It was derived from |
