Abstract The present study was conducted on 165 patients with beta thalassemia for the detection of post-transfusion hypertension . 82 malses and 83 females .Their ages ranged from 3 years to 18 years . Out of the 165 , 25 patients with thalassemia major were found to be hypertensive , with a prevalence of 15.15% . The prevalence of hypertension in the thalassemic males was 14.63%, while that of the females was 15.66% . Out of the 165 thalassemic patients , 62 patients were randomely chosen and classified into 2 groups . The 1st group , included the 25hypertensive thalassemia major patients (Their ages ranged between 3-11 years . 12 males and 13 females ) . The 2nd group , included 37 normotensive thalassemic patients. 29 were normotensive thalassemia major patients (their ages ranged between 3-18 years. 23 males and 6 females) , and 8 were normotensive thalassemia intermedia patients (Their ages ranged between 6-12 years. 4 males and 4 females). A group of 11 healthy normal children mateched at the same age and socioeconomic class were taken as controls. |
