Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the effect of some immunosuppresive drugs on the liver of the Albino rat.
Sixty adult albino rats were used in this study. They were divided into 3 groups:
1. Control group: this group included 10 rats that were injected daily with 1 ml of 0. 9 % normal saline.
2. Azathioprine injected group: this group included 25 rats that were injected daily with azathioprine (imuran) in a dose of 3 mg/kg body weight. The effect of azathioprine on the liver was studied after 3 days, one week, two weeks, one month and two months from the start of injection.
3. Cyclosporine injected group: this group included 25 rats that were injected daily with cyclosporine (sandimmun) in a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight. The effect of cyclosporine on the liver was studied after 3 days, one week, two weeks, one month and two months from the start of injection.
All specimens of this study were studied histologically using hematoxylin and eosin stain and toludine blue stain histochemically using ”periodic acid schiff stain, and by electron microscopic study.
