Abstract The use of PCR in infectious disease has primarily entered in the diagnosis of viral diseases. It could have diagnostic potential in cases in which culture is difficult and time consuming or if increase sensitivity is desired (Remick etai.1990)HBV belongs to a family of hepatotropic DNA viruses called hepadna vims type 1 (Koff and Galambos, 1987). The whole viais is the Dane particle ,which consists of an inner core formed by the liver cell nucleus and outer surface coat (HBsAg).Smal] spheres and tubules (lOOnm long ) of excess viral protein also contain the hepatitis surface antigen Kiimar and dark, 1987)The present work aims to evaluate PCR technique in diagnosis of hepatitis B virus infection and to compare the results with liver function tests as determined by serum albumin ,enzymatic levels as well as other hepatitis B markers including HBVs antigens and HBV e antigens This study was carried out on forty patients presented by chronic hepatitis B ,in addition to ten healthy subjects negative for HBV markers were included as a negative controls Routine methods for diagnosis and selection of cases included(Iiver ftmction tests, HBsAg and HBeAg)Research laboratory methods included ( PCR amplification, dot”i blot hybridization ). |
