Abstract Caffeine clearance has been mentioned to be of value as a quantitative liver function test, therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the integrity and perfonnance of the liver in chronic liver disease patients by measuring caffeine clearance. Also, to show if there is a correlation between caffeine clearance and other conventional liver function tests. This study was conducted on 75 subjects classified into the following groups according to the liver biopsy studies. 1. Patients with liver cirrhosis (n 3 1). 2. Patients with chronic hepatitis (n = 20) 3. Patients with periportal fibrosis (n = 9) 4. Controls : 15 completely healthy subjects. All patients were subjected to the following 1. Full clinical assessment including careful history taking and thorough ci inical examination. 2. Abdominal ul trasonography. 3. Rectal snip 4. Liver biopsy. |
