Abstract Breast cancer is a deadly disease that adversely affects the lives of far too many people, primarily women. Screening mammography is currently the most effective tool for early detection of breast cancer. Detection of suspicious abnormalities is a repetitive and fatiguing task. Radiologists turn to digital mammography as an alternative diagnostic method due to the problems created by conventional screening programs. Computer-aided-detection (CAD) system have been developed to aid radiologists in detecting mammographic lesions that may indicate the presence of breast cancer. Since mammograms contain low signal to noise ratio ( low contrast ) and a complicated structured background, there is a need to enhance imaging which aid interpretation by humans or computers. |
