Abstract

The last ten years have supplied the medical world with extra ordinary imaging techniques such as ultrasound scanning/ which provides high-resolution sectional images containing precise morphological information. It generally implies a non invasive evaluation of the various normal and pathological tissues based upon the interaction between the tissue in question and the ultrasound wave.
Ultrasonography can be used very successfully for diagnosing both focal and diffuse disease of the liver. It is a painless and harmless procedure performed quickly. It is independent of physiologici function. Ultrasonography can assess accurately the consistency of the lesions whether cystic or solid *
Fine needle aspiration biopsy is a precise invasive procedure which, almost without risk, can provide minute tissue samples for further examination either bacteriological or histopathological.
Guided fine needle aspiration biopsy is safe, highly accurate and relatively inexpensive diagnostic procedure.
It is also used as therapeutic method in drainage of abscesses.
