Abstract Hepatosplenvc schisvosofliiasis is the most prevalent torm of hepatic fibmsis worldwide, arid periportsa fibrosis is the major disturbance during moat of the course o£ this •disease - The pathogenesis of SHF is controversial, but in a recent study done by Dunn et ai [1977), it was found that hepatic fibrasis is marked by excessive deposition of ne^ly synthesized liver collagen , Moreover, the rate of collagen synthesis in hepatic sdustosomiasis has been proved to be higher than in normal livers (it was 4-25 tolds higher than normal) and this increased rate of synthesis was correlated with the increased tree praline pool iri the fibrotic livers , Collagen-the most conspicuous component of the fibrotic process-is an extracellular secretion from special f.ibro^ blasts and it is protein in nature , ^The principal ammo acids composing collagen are glycine ^33.5%), praline 112%). and hydroxyproline (1Q£) ; and as collagen is the only protein containing an appreciable amount of hvdroxyproline, this atfino acid is used as an indicator for the presence ar,d metabolism of collagen - |
