This study was undertaken to evaluate the role of Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) on aging and diabetic condition in aged and / or aged diabetic rats. The experiment was carried out on eight groups of aged rats in addition to one group of young rats. There were three control groups for comparison (aged, young and aged diabetic control). The other six groups supplemented with ALA at 10, 50 and 100 mg/kg B.W. / day. Three of these groups are used as aged groups and the other three groups are treated as aged diabetic groups.
Some biochemical parameters statuses as well as histopathological changes in aged and aged diabetic rats were studied. The results indicated that the used of ALA m different concentrations caused significant improvement in food intake and body weight gain as well as there was a positive effect of ALA supplementation on increased serum Glutathione, Super oxide dismutase (SOD), Protein carbonyl and Insulin
