The effect of the dielectric properties of paper sheets on its print quality and printability of paper were studied. Concurrently the effect of the physical and optical properties were also studied. A variety of paper samples were selected commercially available. Uncoated and coated papers were chosen to be widely different in their surface roughness, air permeability and oil absorptivity.
The experimental work consisted of four parts. In the first part, the paper samples were characterized by measuring physical and optical properties. The second dealt with the dielectric properties of paper studied by measuring the dielectric constant (e) and dielectric loss (e) at frequency range (102-105 Hz) and at constant temperature. Thirdly the print quality of experimented samples was studied by measuring the optical density and print gloss. In the fourth part a correlation between print quality and dielectric properties of paper was established.
