Abstract

The original work presented in this thesis has been carried out to investigate the most suitable conditions needed for the electrorecovery of cadmium from industrial waste, regarding cathodic current efficiencies, energy consumption, cathodic potential and the quality of the cathodic cadmium deposits.
Electrodeposition process was applied for the electrorecovery of cadmium from industrial waste of Ni-Cd batteries. This process has been applied successfully.
Cadmium is an important element due to its use in coating, electroplating, pigments, plastics, synthetic products and alloys. The major environmental problem is associated with the toxicity of cadmium. Cadmium from batteries is one of the major sources of cadmium contamination.
Electrorecovery of cadmium is a process in which we make use of cadmium and also reduce toxicity of this element in the environment.
