Abstract

1. Natural dyes obtained from Safflower and Henna plants were successfully applied for dyeing cationized cotton, cotton and wool fabrics.
2. Two different vegetable plants namely, Safflower and Henna were used through out this investigation with different extraction medium for every one.
3. With the different extraction methods, three variant extracts of Safflower plant were maintained; (acid, alkaline and neutral) and two extracts from Henna plant; (acid and neutral).
4. This investigation is divided into three main parts:
1. Dyeing with Safflower dyes & mordanting.
2. Dyeing with Henna dyes & mordanting.
3. Dyeing with combination of Safflower and Henna dyes&
mordanting.
5. All of plants extracts were used to dye cationized cotton, cotton and wool fabrics. The first method of dyeing was at boiling temp. for cationized and wool fabrics and at 60°C with cotton fabrics. The second method was at low temp. i.e. R.T°C for cationized cotton and (40-60)° for wool fabrics that will not changed the demand colour shade. The successful processes were as following:
Using Safflower Extracts:
1. All Safflower extracts dyed cationized cotton. 2. Acid & neutral Safflower extracts were only used to dye wool fabrics.
3. Alkaline extract was not successful to dye wool but successful only to dye uncationized cotton fabrics.
Using Henna Extracts:
1. Neutral Henna extract dyed cationized cotton & wool 2. Acid Henna extract dyed only uncationized cotton fabrics.
