Abstract

directed toward the production of a material of clay polymer grafts which can exhibit’ the characteristic properties of the individual components. Amine terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (ATBN) as a reactive liquid elastomer is used as ideal toughening agent in which the dispersed elastomeric domains of the modifier act to alleviate crack propagation through various proposed mechanisms. The principle objective of rubber modification is the improvement of fracture properties, ATBN elastomer posses drawback in decreasing the modulus and strength. The dual function of ATBNMMT will be used as a reinfocing and toughening agent for Styrene-maleic anhydride (SMA), Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ABS) and Styrene acrylonitrile (SAN). The plan of the study was include three main areas 1. Preparation of butadieneacrylonitrile-montmorillonite nanocomposite (ATBN-MMT) through an ion exchange of sodium ion in MMT with the ammonium group of ATBN, the effect of the method of preparation, solvent type and amount of polymer grafted onto the MMT interlayers was examined. 2. characterization of ATBN-MMT materials by studying the structural composition and morphological hierarchy of the prepared materials using elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, FTIR, DMTA, scanning
