Abstract

In the present work we are concerned with the heterogeneous catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of resins in the form of transition metal ion e. g. copper , cobalt and nickel - heterocyclic amine complexes . The kinetic study of this catalytic decomposition reaction was one of the objectives of the present investigation . The role of stability of the complex was considered from the view point of its effect on the reaction rate . The influence of the resin parameters such as the degree of resin crosslinkage and the particle size were also clarified . The first chapter shows a literature survey on the decomposition of H202 in homogeneous and heterogeneous pattern. This chapter deals with the aim of the present work and shows the advantages of using the resins (in the form of transition metal ion heterocyclic amine complexs ) in H202 decomposition. Chapter I1 deals with the experimental part . It describes the materials , i.e. the Dowex - 50 W resin and the hydrogen peroxide solutions .The kinetic measurements were also explained . The reaction mechanism was proposed in the light of the experimental results obtained . The decomposition of H202 was studied in aqueous medium in the temperature 25 - 40 OC range It was impossible to carry out the decomposition. reaction of H20z in the presence of buffer solutions or in acidic medium due to regeneration of the resin.
