Abstract
The p r e s e n t g e o c h e m i c a l p r o s p e c t i n g s t u d y was c a r r i e d outat t h e E l S i d - F a w a k h i r and A t a l l a Gold Mine a r e a s which a r e s i t u a t e d i n the c e n t r a l p a r t of t h e E a s t e r n D e s e r t of E g y p t , M i n e r a l i z a t i o n i n t h e s e two a r e a s a r e r e p r e s e n t e d by a u r i f e r o u s q u a r t z veins c u t t i n g t h e F a w a k h i r and A t a l l a g r a n i t e b o d i e s , A t the E l S i d - F a w a k h i r a r e a t h e m i n e r a l i z a t i o n i s m a i n l y r e s t r i c t e d t o t h e w e s t e r n c o n t a c t of t h e F a w a k h i r pluton w i t h s e r p e n t f m i t e s . A t o t a l of 176 s t r e a m s e d i m e n t s a m p l e s (149 s a m p l e s from t h e E l S i d - F a w a k h i r a r e a and 27 s a m p l e from t h e A t a l l a a r e a ) were c o l l e c t e d from t h e main wadies and t h e i r t r i b u t a r i e s w i t h a s a m p l i n g i n t e r v a l r a n g i n g from 200-250 m. Some 42 s o i l Celuvio-deluvial) s a m p l e s were c o l l e c t e d a l o n g t h r e e p r o f i l e s (150 m a p a r t ) t r e n d i n g p e r p e n d i c u l a r t o t h e e x p o s e d m i n e r a l i z e d q u a r t z v e i n s a t A t a l l a a r e a , S a m p l i n g d i s t a n c e a l o n g t h e s e p r o f i l e s r a n g e s from 25-75 m. The s t r e a m s e d i m e n t and s o i l s a m p l e s were c o l l e c t e d a t a clepth o f a b o u t 15-25 cm, I n o r d e r t o s t u d y p r i m a r y h a l o e s and r e l a t i v e m o b i l i t y of e l e m e n t s i n t h e m i n e r a l i z e d z o n e s , 68 b e d r o c k s a m p l e s w e r e c o l l e c t e d a l o n g f i v e profiles(tw0 a t E l S i d and t h r e e a t A t a l l a ) c r o s s i n g t h e m i n e r a l i z e d z o n e s . I n s a m p l i n g t h e s e p r o f i l e s s p o t s a m p l e s c o v e r i n g c e r t a i n i n t e r v a l s (5-10 m) were c o l l e c t e d and added t o g e t h e r t o c o n s t i t u t e one c o m p o s i t e s a m p l e .
