Abstract The present work s t u d i e d t h e effect o f c l i m a t i c conditions and s o i l c h a r a c t e r s p r e v a i l i n g at three governorates in Egypt ( a t Kafr El-Sheikh, El-Fayoum and El-Salhia area) on the growth, chemical composition, seed yield, quality of seed o i l and infrared (IR) spectra of flax xylem in addition t o t h e technological properties of particle board made from f l a x o b t a i n e d from the three sites of study. The study a l s o s t u d i e d the effect o f mixing f l a x shives with different percentages of white pine shavings and using different g l u e l e v e l s and pressing conditions on the properties o f manufactured p a r t i c l e boards. The main r e s u l t s of t h i s work are summarized as follows: - Flax p l a n t s showed better growth at K a f r El-Sheikh s i t e S with the highest number of planf/m2 , . plant height, technical length, flowering region length, dry weights of different plant o r g a n s and s t r a w yield. - Stem of flax at El-Salhia s i t e was found to becbzua~terized by great t o t a l s e c t i o n area, wide xylem a r e a a n d high ratio of xylem to t o t a l cross section, |
