Abstract It is beyond doubt that ticks are important blood-sucking ectoparasites which surpass all other arthropods in number and variety of parasitic and bacterial diseases that transmit to man and animal in temperate and tropical zones of the world. Tick paralysis is one of the principal toxicoses transmitted via oral secretions of ticks and occurs in many vertebrate hosts throughout the world. Ticks may also be the cause of serious or even fatal anaemia when present in large numbers. Even today practically the only prophylactic and therapeutic control measure against ticks is the massive use of acaricides. However, the use of these chemicals encourages the selection of resistant tick strains. An extremely attractive way of controlling ticks would be to introduce a resistance to these ectoparasites through immunization. This study was performed in two parts, the first one concernes with ecological and biological studies. while the second belonges to immunological study. |
