Abstract

Recently, with the increase in world population there is an increased attention to fish biology studies especially to those fishes which play a good role as a source of food inspite of other meat sources Teleosts are widely distributed throughout the universal waters. They attain their supreme economic importance due to the fact that they represent a productive source of animal protein for human consumption (Sabry. 1979).Catfishes are economically important inhabitants of inland, fresh (and sometimes slightly brackish) waters in many parts of the world. particularly in the tropical and subtropical regions. Family clariidae is widely distributed in Africa, India and South-East Asia. Within Africa Clarias species are found from the Maghreb region in the north to the south west Cape region in the south. In Africa there is a number of species of Clarias lazera Cuv. & Val. (EL- Bolock & Koura. 1960). Clarias sengalensis Val and Clarias anguillaris Linne. which is common throughout the west of Africa.
