Abstract
This study was carried out on 60 patients presented with clinical, endoscopic and or radiological signes of portal hypertension, those patients were refered to radiology and imaging department at Tanta university hospitals. The patients in this study were 46 males and 14 females and their ages ranged from 14 to 67 years. Other 20 cases were used as a control cases.The aim of this work was to evaluate the role of sonography with its various modes (conventional, spectral and colour Doppler modes) in diagnosis and anatomical and haemodynamic evaluation of portal hypertension and its complications.These patients were subjected to complete clinical examination, oesophagogastric endoscopy, conventinal sonography followed by spectral and colour Doppler modes.Biopsy, C.T., and angiography were sometimes helpful.In this respect we tried collectively to demonstrate the spectrum of abnormalities detected by sonography in cases of portal hypertension.
