Abstract
This study was carried out on 70 patients selected from surgical departement of Tanta University Hospital within the period from Feb. 1991- Feb 1992.All patients presented with hepatosplenomegaly, half of patients presented with history of hematemsis.The patients were subjected to thorough clinical examination, routine laboratory investigations for patients of bilharzial hepatosplenomegaly and preoperative upper endoscopy for detection of the oesophageal varices and its grading.
