Abstract

The r e s u l t s of present work can be summarised as follows : 1- Basal g a s t r i c secretion w a s studied i n control males human and i n control dogs and compared with those of females human and dogs. There is i n s i g n i f i c a n t reduction i n the volume of g a s t r i c juice and s i g n i f i c a n t reduction i n the outputs of f r e e , t o t a l a c i d i t i e s , pepsin and s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n dissolved mucin i n female humans as compared with male humans. As regards dogs, there is i n s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n the volume, outputs of f r e e , t o t a l a c i d i t i e s and pepsin as well as s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n dissolved mucin i n female dogs as compared with male dogs. 2- Basal g a s t r i c secretion of male humans and male dogs show that there is insignificant increase in volume of g a s t r i c juice and i n s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n f r e e and t o t a l a c i d i t i e s as well as pepsin outputs and i n s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n the outputs of dissolved mucin in male dogs as compared with male humansilo kg body weight. 3- B a s a l , histamine and i n s u l i n stimulated g a s t r i c secretion was studied i n dogs before and a f t e r oestrogen administration. Oestrogen produces s i g n i f i c a n t decreaae i n the volume of g a s t r i c juice and concentration and outputs of f r e e and t o t a l a c i d i t i e s and pepsin i n basal, histamine and i n s u l i n induced g a s t r i c secretion i n male dogs and it produces s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n concentration of mucoprot eose and mucoprot ein of b a s a l g a s t r i c s e c r e t i o n of male dogs as well as serum cholinestrase enzyme and no e f f e c t on mucin i n histamine and i n s i g n i f i c a n t change i n i n s u l i n secretion. 4- Basal, histamine and i n s u l i n stimulated g a s t r i c secr e t i o n was studied i n dogs before and a f t e r administration of progesterone. It causes s i g n i f i c a n t decrease i n the volume of g a s t r i c secret ion and concentration and outputs of f r e e and t o t a l a c i d i t i e s and pepsin i n basal, histamine and i n s u l i n induced g a s t r i c secretion of male dogs. Also it produces s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n concentration of mucoproteose of basal, and i n s u l i n induced g a s t r i c secretion and i n s i g n i f i c a n t change i n mucoprotein i n both basal and i n s u l i n s e c r e t i o n and and no e f f e c t .on mucus i n histamine secretion and s i g n i f i c a n t increase serum cholinesterase. 5- Basal, histamine and i n s u l i n stimulated g a s t r i c secr e t i o n was studied i n male dogs before and a f t e r administr a t i o n of testosterone. Testosterone produces s i g n i f i c a n t increase i n the volume of g a s t r i c s e c r e t i o n and concentration and outputs of f r e e and t o t a l a c i d i t i e s and pepsin i n basal, histamine and i n s u l i n induced g a s t r i c secretion of male dogs.~lso,i t produces s i g n i f i c a n t decrease i n c o n c e n t r a t i o n of mucoproteose and mucoprotein i n basal and i n s u l i n stimulated g a s t r i c secretion i n male dogs and i n s i g n i f i c a n t reduction i n output of both i n b a s a l s e c r e t i o n and s i g n i f i c a n t reduction i n the output of both i n i n s u l i n as well as c h o l i n e s t r a s e h u5 enzyme. While, histamine1 no e f f e c t on mucin.
