Abstract
Bilharzial pulmonary hypertension (bilhmzial cor pulmonde ) was first desoribed as a unique clinco-pathological entity by Artmy and Effat (1932) The disease results from recurrent srnbolization of the preoapillary vessels of’ the lung with bilhmzia ova causing .a diffuse obliterativeend mteritia. ~ctionally,t h i s causes a progreasivs rim of pul.mona3.y artery pressure which eventually causes right ventricular strain and hyper-.f. trbph3.m The hypertension affects the arterial segment of the pulmonary circuit and is strictly pre-capillary, the venoulnpillmy segment never pfsticipating in the pulmonmy hyper t on si on.
