Abstract
Oxytocin is one of the most frequently used compounds in modern obstetrics and its prudent use has vastly improved obstetrical practice. However when used injudiciouly the potential for maternal and foetal compromise exists •(l)Oxytocin is the only uterotonic agent with U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to induce labor with a viable foetus.A thorough understanding of the pharmacokinetics and clinical effects of oxytocin will allow the most effecient use of oxytocin and prevent untoward complications
