Abstract
Our study was undertaken to compare the characteristics of spinal blockade after injection of hyperbaric 0.5% bupivacaine in young and aged patients. We studied some characteristics of C.S.F. in these patients. Our patients were classified into two groups according to age: Group I ( 45 years and group 11 ) 60 years. After injection of 3 ml of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine via L4-S space in sitting position the patient remained sitting for 2 minutes and was then placed in the supine horizontal position. In each patientthe following variables wereobserved: Systemic arterial pressure,heart rate, time to initial onset of analgesia and motor blockade, highest level of analgesia and duration of analgesia and motor blockade. Assessments were done every 5 minutes during the first 30 minutes after injection then at 15 minutes interval ءtill brcomplete recovery.
