Abstract There are three types of urographic contrast media: 1) Conventional contrast media :- These are sodium or methyl glucamine s a l t s of a substituent monomeric tri-iodinated benzoic acid. They are strong acids dissociates in solution into~ions. These are three intravascular contrast media: diatrizoates (Urografin), iothalamates (Conray), metrizoates (Triosil) . 2) Non-ionic substances: Such a solution w i l l not have any radiologically useless ions for the chemical compound does not dissociate in solution. Examples of these new contrast media are metrizamide (Amipaque), iohexol (Omnipaque), iopamidol (Isovue), and iopromide (Ultravist). 3) Mono-acid dimer:- Two molecules of the conventioned contrast media can be linked together producing a dimeric contrast medium. Example of this new contrast medium i s ioxaglate s a l t s (Hexabrix). It i s an ionic contrast medium. |
