Abstract This study was conducted on 30 patiaens with lower resperatory tract infections and 5 healthy normal non-smoker volunteers. Bronchoalveolar lavage was done after clinical examination and appropriate laboratory investigations to exclude any contraindication forth is procedure , Following routine evaluation of the respiratory tract , the tip of the bronchoscope was wedged into a subsegmental bronchus of the right middle lobe in lesions affecting the right lung and the inferior segment of the lingula in lesions affecting the left lung. Once the bronchasocope waswedged, 100 m l . of 0.9% sterile saline was injected into the suction channel by the use of a 20 cc. plastic syringe. Then the fluid was immediately sucked back by means of a suction apparatus at 50 - 80 mm. Hg. |
