Abstract Two f i e l d experiments were conducted on the experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture,Kafr El-Sheikb tanta University , Egypt,during the summer seasons of 1987 and 1988 to find the optimum level of nitrogen suitable f o r thedifferent v a r i e t i e s . Three planting dates representing early; May 6, moder a t e ; Wy 27 and l a t e ; June 17 sowing times during the r i c e growing season i n Egypt, Also, f o u r l e v e l s of nitrogen ferti l i z a t i o n ; 40, 60, 80 and 100 Kg,N/Fad. were used. A s p l i t - s p l i t plot experimental design with four r e p l i - cates was used i n both experiments. The main plots were randomly assigned to the t h r e e planting dates, sub-plots to five rice cultivars and sub-sub plots to four nitrogen l e v e l s . The sub-sub p l o t s i z e 1 6 m2 (3.2 x 5 m) and t r a n s p l a n t i n g was done i n h i l l s of 3 seedlings, 20 x 20 cm apart. The traits heading date, plant height, panicle length, number of 2 branches/panicle, number of panicles/m , weight of main panicle, grain weight, grain yield, s t r a w yield, grain/straw r a t i o and harvest index were recorded. |
