Abstract

The current work was carried out in the laboratory to study the effect of leaching with high saline water (drainage water), low saline water (irrigation water) and drainage water followed by irrigation one, in presence of some soil amnedments, on some properties of salt affected soils. Two methods for leaching were considerd; continuous leaching and intermittent one. The soil amendments were gypsum for saline-sodic soil and gypsum, gypsum + lime (1:l) and (1:Z) ratios for Mg- affected soil. Two surface (0 - 30) saline-sodic and Mg- affected soil samples, were taken from Boroullus and El- Khashaa areas, respectively at North of Kafr El- Sheikh Governorate. Gypsum requirements were calculated by Schnoover methed and found to be 20 and 4 ton/fed for salinesodic and Mg- affected soil, respectively. Soil samples were air dried, crushed and packed in plastic columns (35 x 12.5 cm) and compresed for 20 cm height to keep bulk density at 1.2 g/cm3. The quantity devoted of gypsum requirements for saline- sodic soil were mixed with the soil sample in one application befor packing. While, Mg- affected soil was mixed with gypsum, gypsum (CaS04.2HzO) and lime (CaC03) with ratios (1:l) and (1:2) befor backing. Leaching water collected from Meet Yazid canal representing irrigation water (EC 0.46 ds/m and SAR 1.64) and from El- Mohiet drain to represent drainage water (EC 13.2 ds/m and SAR 27.84).
