Abstract

The present work is to study some factors affecting sugar beet production in some Egyptian soils. To achieve this study. Two sources of organic matter(sewage sludge and farmyard manure) were applied to a field soil at different rats. The two sources of amendments were applied to soil, one time at the rates of 10, 15, 20, and 30 tons/fed into two depths of soil ploughing (15 & 30 cm). Three crops were grown after addition of the above-mentioned amendments in the following sequence maize, sugar beet, and Egyptian clover. Before planting and after harvesting of each crop, soil samples were taken and analyzed the physical and chemical characteristics, in addition yield and yield components of the three cultivated crops were recorded. from the different results obtained, the f ol lowing conclusions could be listed: I. Effect of sewage sludqe under surface ploughing (15 cm)_ and croppinq system on some chemical properties of soilunder study. - Soil treated with different rates of sewage sludge had lower values of soil PH than the untreated one. - Values of soil PH under the different rates of organic matter addition and after cropping showed the following order: Egyptian clover sugar beet maize. 2. Electric conductivity of soil (EC): - The soil treated with different rates of sewage sludge addition had higher EC of the soil then the untreated one. - Values. of EC of the soil under cropping system (after harvest) at different rates of organic matter addition
