This study aims to identify the major roles of Agriccltural. Cooperatives” in agrarian reform aseon at Kair El-Sheikh governorate in r u r a l development process, - idatifying the determinants of cooperative e f f e c t i v e -ness, and the socio-economic Varia’bles that determine positive a t t i t u d e s of land-holders toward t h e i r om egoperat ives. The data was gathered from 59 coopern$ives and from il random smplc. 01 264 farrnero. Zero-ordor correlr ation and rnultiple regression techniques were used t o amlyze the data. Two t a i l e d t-tent were used to t e s t the ,significance of p a r t i a l regression coef Iicient s.The level of significance t h a t be considered is .OfS level I. The r e s u l t s of the study revealed t h a t , a g r i c u l t u r a l cooperative contribute s i g n i f i c a n t l y in developing r u r a l communities. Economic and s o c i a l a c t i v i t i e s were found t o be perfo~ii~edR. egarding t o econonic a c t i v i t i e s , 43 coo3eratfves were found to have some a c t i v i t i e s in f a t t - ing calves, f a t t i n g and breeding chickenes and ducks ,honeg bees proeu zt ion, brooding chicks as well as d i s t ribut inf: t r a c t o r s and chickenes. As for agricultural product ion services, cooperatives play r o l e s i n marketing cotton, r i c e , am.! wheat crops, organizihg the a g r i c u l t u r a l rout at ion, provide semices in i r r i g a t i o n , p.rovide monetary apd non-monet ary loans and developing agri- , . c u l t u r a l industries. . ..’ Social and educational a c t i v i t i e s were represented i n welfare and pub1.i~ s e r v i c e s , t r a i n i n g a g r i c u l t u r a l . workers, support in{: small cooperatis , contr ibut ion to home a c t i v i t i e s , solve c o n f l i c t i n g issues among cooperatives members, discovering local leaders and t r a i n - ing them, distFibu ting extension magazine that involve knowledge regarding a g r i c u l t u r a l operat ions, and play n role In connecting farmers with research s t a t i o n s . liegardint: t h e nature ~f the r e l a t i o n s h i p between socio-economic vnqlablee, md managerial offecfivenetl$ of cooperatives, several measures of cooperatives &fect i.veness were regres:;ed on s i x independent variables. Cooperat ive e f f e c t i v e n e s s was measured by eight variables. They were: net surplus , efficiency of machinery s e r v i c e s , p r o f i t a b i l i t y of c a p i t a .
