Abstract Diabetes Mellitus is a disease best characterized as a state of chronic hyperglycemia of various aetiologies. This state is generally recognized as a predisposing risk factor for specific complications. Diabetes has been classified into two major categories; primary, with no associated disease and another category which includes; impairment of glucose tolerance, gestational, latent, potential, prediabetes and secondary diabetes with associated certain conditions and syndromes. According to insulin dependence, primary diabetes is classified into type I insulin dependent diabetes (IDD) and type I1 non-insulin dependent diabetes (NIDD) . |
