Abstract
The present work involved the following studies:
a) Preparation of some polymer - supported Schiff-base complexes and their use as catalysts in the autoxidation of phenols in aqueous medium. Scfiff-base complexes (X VIa_d) were prepared as water soluble catalysts. Colloidal anion exchange resin (XVII]) was prepared by emulsion copolymerization of chlorornethylstyrene and 5% divinylhenzene and subsequent treatment of the obtained polymer with trimethylamine. Cationic latexes (XXI) and (XXII) were prepared by emulsion copolymerization of 2% quaternary ammonium ion sufactant monomer and 1% divinylbenzene with styrene or methyl methacrylate . Schiff-base complexes (XVl a_ d) catalyzed autoxidation of 2,6-ditertbutylphenol in water to a mixture of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-l.4- benzoquinone (BQ)
and 3,5 3-,Y- tetra - tert - butyl - 4,4- - diphenoquinone (DPQ) .
