Abstract In Egypt , ethylene bis (dithiocarbemate) fundcides (EBDc) presents the most important group of fungicides to protect t h e vegetables from fungal diseases . Diathane M-45 , Mancoper and tri-meltox f o r t are considered the moat important coppolznds among t h i s group and are widely used in potato and pepper product ion as fungicides against early and l a t e blight of potato and powdery mildew in pepper . EBDC-fungicides are unstable i n the presence of moisture , oxygen , temperature and l i g h t as well as in biological systems. One of the decomposition products of E3DC is ethylenethiourea, 2-imidazolidinethione (ETU) . from standpoint of view of toxicology, ETU is toxic and more dangerous t o men and h i s environment than t h e i n i t i a l substance , EBDC. Recently, ETU has been shown t o be goitrogenic carcinogenic and te~et ogenic. Concern about p o t e n t i a l environmental contamination and the health hazard from the use of EBDC fungicides on food crops , has prompted renewed i n v e s t i - gations of residues of EBDC and ETU on treated cropa. |
