Abstract The present study provides an analysis of the nutrient budget in the agroecosystems of two crops, wheat ( Triticum aestivum, Gramineae) and broad beans ( Vicia faba, Leguminosae), in the vicinity of Tanta (Gharbia Governorate) in the Nile Delta Region. Two fields, one for each crop, of one feddan each were selected. Plant materials, standing dead parts, associated weed species and soil samples were collected throughout the growing season of each crop every two weeks. Plants were separated into their organs, rinsed, oven-dried at 60’~ then powdered and stored ready for use. The determinations of the nutrient elements (N, P, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, and Mn) were carried out for crop plants, the associated weeds and the soil underneath. Phytomass of wheat and broad beans and the associated weeds were determined on the basis of estimating the cumulative increase in weight of different organs multiplied by the density of the crop. Besides, the phenological stages (seedling, vegetative, flowering and fruiting) were determined every two weeks. |
