Abstract
Re~ently~zirconirae f r a c t o r i e s a t t r a c t a great a t t e n t i o n of st:ic.ntistr; ;tnd end usel s. S t a b i l i z e d zirconia r e f r a c t o r i e s have high melting point and r e s i s t thermal and mechanical stresses. These materials are also suitable and useful f o r laboratory and i n d u s t r i a l furnaces and as a so1i.d e l e c t r o l y t e i n f u e l c e l l s . On the other hand side the garnet materials f i n d t h e i r useful applications f o r magnetic bubble memory devices. Thus our present materials were prepared using the conventional ceramic procedure and f i r i n g technique, thereafter pressed i n t o p e l l e t s (diam. 1.1 cm, t h i c k . 0.1-0.2 2 cm) under constant hydraulic pressure of 3000 kgm/cm , sintered at 1350”~ f o r 3 hr-s. f o r doped zircania samples and a t 1400”~ f o r 5 hrs. under a stream of oxygen atmosphere f o r the garnet samples. Then all f i r e d samples were remained to cool slowly inside thefurnace down to room temperature. The prepared samples were dipped inside the molten n i t r a t e s as functions of time and temperature. After the exchange was carried out the p e l l e t was removed from the molten s a l t and washed thoroughly with d i s t i l l e d water several times; then d r i e d a t 100~f~o r 12 hrs. and f i n a l l y k e p t i n vacuum dessicator.
