Abstract

Schistosomiasis mansoni represents a majr health problem especially in developing countries including Egypt. The effect of schistosomiasis rnansoni extends to almost all the organs of the body. Involvement of the CNS in Schistosoma mansoni infection was recorded by different authors especially in advanced cases. However the true mechanism of CNS involvement is still vague. The present study was designed for the detection of the cerebral lesions in mice experimentally infected with Schistosoma mansoni and studying the role of circulating immune complexes in the pathogenesis of such lesions. In order to fulfil this aim the following steps were performed: The life cycle of Schistosoma mansoni was carried out in the laboratory to produce the cercariae necessary for mice infection, Female Swiss albino mice, eight weeks old were infected subcutaneously with different cercarial doses for the different experiments. A control group was included. The serum and brain of the infected and control mice were obtained weekly from the fifth week after infection until the 20& week and were processed as required.
