Abstract
The work is conduoted to estimate the melanocyte population, morphology and a ctivityin the hypo pigmented leuions of lep,roay in order to throw more light on the pathogeneai~ of hypopignentation i n this disease. The material of this study waa oomposed of 12 patienti (4,T-T and 0,B.T) li’.They were well diagnosed oaeres of leprosy under regular obaervation and treatememt i n out patient cliniwof Tonto university hospital. Prom eaoh petient 2 skin biopsies were taken one from the hypopigmented area and the other from the symmetrically opposite side of the body where the skin show no 0) vioua change to serve as a control. Skin biopsies are stained by buffered dopa solution by the dopa oxidase method in tirseue ereotions (Bloch 1917, laidlaw and blackberg 1932).
