Abstract The impact of oil pollution on biota have been confined to birds, other animals and higher plants, while algae have received less attention despite their significant position as important primary producer in aquatic food chain. This work describes the effect of oil pollution on the growth and metabolic activity of fresh water green algae. Various concentrations of Alamain Crude oil and two of its refinery products (solar and lubricating oils) having different boiling ranges were used for experimental treatment. Solar oil (C12-C16) has low boiling point range of 200-300DC, while lubricating oil (above C2S) has higher range above 400DC. Two species of unicellular green algae Chlorella . |
