Abstract Selfed seeds of three cotton strains belonging to G-barbadense L, and showing a wide range i n inaecta re- .- sistance were wed to study the inheritance of resistance to some cotton insects. The strains selection was mainly baaed on the contrasting levels of both gosaypol content and densrity of hairs. The f i e l d work was conducted during 1981-1984 seasons at Sakha Agrio, Ree. Station, The hairy atrain Bahtim- 101 ma used as a common parent in crossing with the two glandlese atrains Bahtim-110 and Sea-Island AS-2 to produce two crosses designated as B-101 x B-110 and B-101 x 3.1.A~-2. The PI, P2, F1, F2, Bol and Bcp of each of the two crosses were evaluated for two years for resistance to aome cotton insects at three atages of growth of the cotton plant, Aphid evaluation was based on determining the reproductive r a t e of one single adult female i n the seedling stage for two years (1983 and 1984) and i n the adult stage i n the l a t e cotton season for only one year (1984). Cotton leafworm evaluation waa based on leaf-feeding ratings for two years a8 percentage of leaf-area consumed by the cotton leafworm larvae. Bollmrms evaluation was based on bolls infestation percentage f o r two years and on seed damag by pink bollworm for only one year (1984). |
