Abstract This study was carried out at the Poultry Research Unit (PRU) belonging to Poultry Division, Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta University during the period from March (1989) to February (1991).The objective of the study was testing the possibility of the genetic improvement of carcass quailty of Pekin ducks. The main crit~ria was the abdominal fat in the carcass. It included thrc-?e successive generation (the base population and two sel.;ction generations). The base popuiaticn (Go) was Taken from the main random bred flocks of the PRC. Two lines have been initiated from Go. One of the lines w,z.s selected for reducing the abdominal fat percent while the other was let without selection as a control line. The studied characters included body weight at each 2 week intervals during +he fattening period (1-8 weeks) and 4 week intervals durir!.. the growing period (8-24 weeks), specific gravity of th.- live birds at 8 weeks. |
