Abstract The main objective of the present i n v e s t i g a t i o n was t o study the inheritance of dwarfness on some local and introduced r i c e v a r i e t i e s , and to determine the extent of g e n e t i c a s s o c i a t i o n between dwarfness and other agronomic characters such as panicle length, date af heading and t i l l e r i n g capacity. Seven rice s t r a i n s with wide range of v a r i a t i o n f o r dwarfness and some other agronomic charact e r s were used as parents. They were belonging to three groups of culm length; Nahda as a tall v a r i e t y , and Dee-geowoo- gen, Reiho, Ta~ehonami and Nutant 275 as semidwarf s t r a i n s , while Mutant 180 and Mutant 175 as dwarf strains. There were three groups of crosses, t h e f i r s t one included two crosses between the t a l l parent Nahda w i t h Mutant 180 and Mutant 175, the second group , repxesented by crosses between Nahda and four semidwarf strains, and the l a s t one included f i v e semidwarf x semidwarf crosses. Eleven crosses were made i n the season 1974. F1 and Fa besidesthe ’parents were sown for each cross i n the season 1975. F3 fadlies for each cross were sown i n the season 1976. |
